The Cabbage Soup Diet For Weight Loss


The cabbage soup soup has several years on the news, and basically consists on eating cabbage soup for seven days, adding some food group during each of that week as discussed below. It is not known for sure what is the origin of this system, but it became popular during the 80's, and during the years has taken various names such as "military diet", "Russian diet" and others. It promises a quick weight loss, but  this diet has been never taken very seriosuly by the experts.

It consist basically in a 7 days program as follows:

Day 1: Cabbage soup, plus all the fruit you want to eat less bananas.

Day 2: Cabbage soup, more all the vegetables you want. Less potatoes.

Day 3: Cabbage soup, more vegetables and fruits, no potatoes or bananas.

Day 4: Cabbage soup, plus 8 bananas and all the skim milk that you want to consume.

Day 5: Cabbage soup, plus a serving of meat and up to 6 tomatoes.

Day 6: Cabbage soup, plus a serving of meat and vegetables, no potatoes.

Day 7: Cabbage soup, brown rice. vegetables (no potatoes), and fruit juices.

This system is also used for weight loss and as every diet out of the ordinary has aroused much controversy among nutritionists and doctors. Fundamentally it is one of the low calorie diets, and according to many experts may have some shortcomings if followed during a long time.

This diet according to its proponents helps to reduce several kilogrames per week, but obviously it can not continue for long.

Other Popular low calorie diets:
The South Beach Diet
This diet proposes a rapid decrease in weight between 3-6 kilos in the first 15 days, and consists of three phases. It is a low calorie diet, and to perform you will needed a good dose of willpower. As this diet is originally designed for cardiac patients, it places much emphasis on eating saturated fat free foods, and includes in the meal plan, foods rich in Omega 3 and healthy oils.
The Lemonade Diet
This is a liquid diet and it consists in a daily intake of a mixture containing fresh lemon, natural water, organic maple syrup, and cayenne. It also includes a morning intake of water and salt. You can continue the diet for a period of 5-14 days, during which all kinds of solids are removed, and a drastic reduction in caloric intake is experienced. Obviously this is a fast system, and therefore must be controlled and monitored by a specialist.

Having a moderate and controlled approach with food can be helpful. Diets can be maintained for a some time, but the adequate living habits will be always with us.
